CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, bringing significant upgrades in camera technology, performance, and battery life. The latest models showcase a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera equipped with a variable aperture, a first for the iPhone. Both devices are powered by the new A20 Pro chip and feature a redesigned thermal system. Preorders will start on September 12, with retail sales beginning on September 18 across more than 65 countries and regions.

The camera system on the iPhone 18 Pro includes four selectable aperture options to better control lighting and depth of field. The main camera supports apertures of f/1.48, f/1.8, f/2.8, and f/4.0. Additionally, it comprises 48-megapixel Ultra Wide and Telephoto cameras. New Pro controls allow users to modify aperture, shutter speed, and white balance directly within the Camera app. There is also an option to view a histogram during photo or video capture.
Apple has rolled out Reference Image, a feature that users can opt into to verify the authenticity of their photographs. When taking a photo in Reference mode, signed sensor data is captured, creating a reference image that can be compared with an edited version in the Photos app. The company is also expanding support for image metadata and the SynthID standard, with SynthID support expected through a software update later in 2026.
Variable aperture enhances camera control
The A20 Pro chip is built using a 2-nanometer manufacturing process, featuring a six-core CPU and a seven-core GPU. It also includes a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with 32 cores dedicated to artificial intelligence processing. Apple claims the GPU is up to 40% faster than the A19 Pro. The chip is paired with a redesigned vapor chamber that increases surface area and boosts sustained performance. The models also incorporate Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, enabled by Apple’s N1 wireless networking chip.
Battery life has also been extended in the iPhone 18 Pro series. Apple states that the eSIM-only versions of the Pro can deliver up to 36 hours of video playback, while the Pro Max can reach up to 45 hours under similar conditions. The iPhone 18 Pro can attain 50% charge in around 15 minutes using compatible wired accessories. The removal of the physical SIM tray in eSIM-only models frees up additional space for batteries, which will be available in several Middle Eastern markets.
Siri AI arrives with iOS 27
The new devices come preloaded with iOS 27 and support Siri AI via Apple Intelligence. Siri AI enters beta on September 14 for supported devices set to English. Support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish is expected to roll out in October. The software can leverage personal context from messages, emails, and photos while handling requests. It is also capable of responding to on-screen content. Apple Intelligence processes data on-device and utilizes Private Cloud Compute for cloud-based tasks supported by the system.
Pricing for the iPhone 18 Pro begins at $1,199 in the United States, while the Pro Max starts at $1,299. Both models are available with storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. Color choices include burgundy, glacier, silver, and black. In the UAE, the iPhone 18 Pro starts at AED 5,099. Preorders open on September 12, with sales starting on September 18. An additional 20 countries and regions are scheduled to receive the devices on September 25.
