ABU DHABI, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES / RankWire.AI / – UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan engaged in discussions with Jordan’s King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein in Abu Dhabi on Sunday. Their conversation centered on the relationship between the UAE and Jordan and exploring opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation. The leaders also examined developments across the Middle East along with other shared concerns. They emphasized the importance of ongoing dialogue regarding regional security, stability, and the pursuit of enduring peace. King Abdullah was in the UAE accompanied by a senior Jordanian delegation.

UAE and Jordan leaders review ties and regional issues
UAE-Jordan talks focus on bilateral ties, trade cooperation and regional issues.

During the meeting, the officials assessed collaboration in the economic, trade, and development sectors within the framework of the UAE-Jordan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah reiterated their dedication to enhancing ties across sectors that align with national development goals. They also explored avenues to expand cooperation in accordance with mutual interests. Both nations have extensive political and economic relations supported by regular high-level consultations. Their recent discussion placed an equal focus on bilateral development initiatives and regional coordination efforts.

King Abdullah arrived in Abu Dhabi with Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II and Prime Minister Jafar Hassan. Sheikh Mohamed welcomed the Jordanian monarch upon his arrival. Senior UAE officials, including Vice President Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, were present during the discussions. Also attending were Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The attendance of top officials highlighted the broad scope of bilateral issues addressed during the visit.

    Economic collaboration boosts UAE-Jordan partnership

The core framework for enhancing economic cooperation is the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. The agreement, signed on October 6, 2024, and effective from May 15, 2025, marks the UAE’s first comprehensive economic partnership with an Arab country. It preserves trade liberalization for over 98% of tariff lines, covering services, investment, digital trade, customs cooperation, and support measures for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Goods that satisfy the applicable rules of origin and technical standards are granted preferential treatment under the agreement, which covers more than 99.5% of the value of UAE exports to Jordan. The pact introduces mechanisms to streamline customs procedures and foster investment cooperation. It also creates committees and designated focal points to monitor implementation. Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah highlighted the importance of expanding economic, trade, and development cooperation as vital for strengthening bilateral relations.

Focus on regional security and stability remains a priority

Discussions on regional issues played a significant role during the Abu Dhabi talks. Sheikh Mohamed and King Abdullah shared perspectives on matters affecting the Middle East and broader regional stability. Both leaders underscored the necessity of continued coordination between the UAE and Jordan, linking this cooperation to efforts aimed at reinforcing security and stability throughout the region. They reaffirmed their backing for initiatives seeking long-term peace while concentrating on shared regional concerns.

Later on Sunday, King Abdullah left the UAE following the discussions. Sheikh Mohamed was there to bid farewell to the Jordanian king, alongside senior UAE officials. The visit continued the pattern of frequent engagement between the two leaders on bilateral and regional issues. Their meeting in Abu Dhabi combined economic cooperation under the partnership agreement with consultations on developments in the Middle East. The dialogue reaffirmed the UAE and Jordan’s commitment to maintaining close cooperation on economic, development, and regional matters.
