BERLIN, GERMANY / RankWire.AI / – On Thursday, UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan held a meeting with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul in Berlin. The discussions centered on enhancing cooperation between the UAE and Germany across economic and developmental sectors. They also touched upon regional and international issues, diplomacy, peace efforts, and global security. The meeting took place alongside President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany from September 9 to 11.

UAE and Germany widen strategic partnership in Berlin
UAE-Germany talks in Berlin highlight expanding strategic and economic cooperation.

Both officials explored strategies to deepen their strategic partnership and promote collaboration in multiple areas. Sheikh Abdullah characterized the bilateral relationship as robust and enduring, emphasizing ongoing development. He highlighted a mutual dedication to building upon past successes and fostering sustainable economic growth. Wadephul and Sheikh Abdullah shared perspectives on issues of mutual concern and approaches to crisis resolution via diplomacy.

The extensive state visit served to structure the bilateral ties more comprehensively. Germany’s Federal Government described it as the first ever state visit to Germany by a UAE president. During the visit, Sheikh Mohamed met Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and both leaders announced the formation of a new Strategic Dialogue framework. This platform encompasses security, defense, trade, investment, energy, climate, technology, digitalization, transport, environment, culture, and education sectors.

Enhanced Strategic Dialogue Expands Bilateral Collaboration

Both governments endorsed initiatives for a German-UAE Investment Council aimed at boosting engagement between public and private sectors. They also welcomed the recommencement of the Joint Economic Committee and the outcomes achieved through a bilateral business forum. As per the joint declaration, the visit resulted in 29 business agreements and memoranda worth over 9.356 billion euros. Additionally, a UAE investment package worth 40 billion euros in Germany was among the key announcements.

Economic cooperation extends further into sectors such as energy, innovative technology, and digital infrastructure. The joint declaration highlighted ongoing and future projects involving LNG, renewable energy, hydrogen, and energy efficiency. It also referenced plans for the development of advanced data centers with an approximate capacity of one gigawatt. Artificial intelligence and emerging technologies were also identified as key areas within the broader scope of bilateral cooperation.

Foreign Ministers Emphasize Diplomacy and Regional Stability

During their Berlin talks, the foreign ministers examined regional and international developments. They emphasized the importance of international efforts to promote peace and stability, as well as to uphold global security. Discussions included the application of diplomacy to resolve crises, aligning with themes raised during the state visit. The German government had also listed the Middle East’s peace and stability as topics for the leaders’ discussions.

Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, UAE Minister of State, was present at the meeting between Sheikh Abdullah and Wadephul. Their deliberations integrated foreign policy, economic cooperation, and developmental initiatives within the framework of bilateral relations. The state visit also connected these discussions with formal mechanisms for investment, strategic dialogue, and sector-specific collaboration. These Berlin meetings represent the latest milestone in the UAE-Germany Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which has been active since 2004.
