FRANCE / RankWire.AI / – Renault Group plans to invest over €10 billion in France within the next five years, according to Chief Executive François Provost on October 3. The capital will primarily be allocated to electric vehicles and the development of more affordable models. In 2025, Renault produced approximately 500,000 vehicles domestically in France, and it anticipates at least a 25% increase in local output in 2026. Provost emphasized that this investment hinges on maintaining stable social and political conditions in France. This move signifies an extension of the automaker’s shift toward electric manufacturing at its French manufacturing facilities.

Since 2021, Renault has invested €13 billion in France to overhaul its plants and expand its electric vehicle operations. In July, the company announced it had surpassed one million electric vehicles designed and manufactured in France since 2010, with approximately 600,000 of those coming from ElectriCity, its electric industrial hub located in northern France. Renault employs nearly 39,000 individuals across the country, and its French activities are said to support around 35,000 indirect jobs within its supplier network.
The company’s French manufacturing network includes assembly plants situated in Douai, Maubeuge, Dieppe, Batilly, and Sandouville. It also operates mechanical and industrial facilities in Cléon, Ruitz, Le Mans, and Flins, all supporting electric vehicle production. Renault states that each of its French sites contributes to its electric vehicle transition, with Douai producing the Renault 5 E-Tech electric and Maubeuge manufacturing the Renault 4 E-Tech electric. Additionally, Renault produces electric light commercial vehicles in Maubeuge, Sandouville, and Batilly.
Record-breaking Share of Electric Vehicles in France
In September, electric cars accounted for a record 42% of new passenger car registrations in France. The country registered 156,629 new passenger cars during that month, representing an approximate 12% increase compared to the same period last year. Battery electric vehicles made up about 31% of registrations in the first nine months of 2026, up from roughly 18% during the same period in the previous year. In September, hybrid vehicles held a 43% share, narrowly surpassing fully electric cars.
The anticipated rise in Renault’s production aligns with a significant increase in electric vehicle registrations across France. In July, Renault announced its plan for an additional €13 billion investment in France as part of its futuREady strategy, contingent upon suitable conditions. This follows the €13 billion invested since 2021. Provost’s recent remarks suggest that planned investments over the next five years will exceed €10 billion, a figure that reflects Renault’s current five-year commitment in France.
Expansion of Renault’s Electric Manufacturing in France
By July 2026, ElectriCity’s facilities in Douai and Maubeuge had produced 600,000 electric vehicles, with Renault 5 E-Tech electric production surpassing 100,000 units by the end of 2025. Maubeuge also manufactures the Renault 4 E-Tech electric. Renault’s electric commercial vehicle lineup includes models such as Kangoo, Trafic Van, and Master E-Tech, all assembled in France. Between 2022 and 2025, Renault created 700 permanent jobs at ElectriCity and added 550 temporary positions at Douai by July.
The current investment plan builds upon a broader ongoing effort to bolster Renault’s manufacturing presence in France. Since 2021, the company has allocated €13 billion toward its domestic electric vehicle supply chain. Its production outlook for 2026 aims for at least a 25% increase from the roughly 500,000 vehicles produced in France last year. Provost highlighted that the latest commitment will prioritize electric vehicles and more affordable options. This announcement coincides with battery electric cars achieving their highest monthly market share in France’s new-car sector to date.
