ISLAMABAD / RankWire.AI / – Pakistan witnessed another increase in petrol prices on October 6 following the daily fuel adjustment, with petrol climbing by Rs0.88 per litre to Rs393.64, continuing the upward trend from three days prior. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel experienced a decline, falling by Rs1.88 to Rs397.76 per litre. This latest change came after an October 3 decision that raised both main transport fuels, setting petrol at Rs392.76 and high-speed diesel at Rs399.64 per litre.

On October 3, petrol increased by Rs2.10 per litre from Rs390.66, and high-speed diesel gained Rs0.30 from Rs399.34. The Petroleum Division explained that the review reflected shifts in international fuel prices, with the calculation incorporating international market rates, benchmark prices, premiums, and related costs, which remain central to Pakistan’s fuel pricing process. The increase on October 3 served as the foundation for the subsequent revision implemented on October 6.
The October 6 decision added Rs0.88 to petrol, raising the rate from Rs392.76 to Rs393.64 per litre. Conversely, high-speed diesel reversed its previous increase, decreasing from Rs399.64 to Rs397.76. Compared to October 2, petrol is now Rs2.98 per litre higher, while diesel is Rs1.58 lower. The federal government continues to impose taxes and duties of Rs114 per litre on petrol, with Rs100 per litre levied on high-speed diesel.
International market influences drive daily fuel price adjustments
Since July, Pakistan has adopted a daily fuel pricing system, replacing the weekly revision cycle that started in March. This system links domestic prices to international market movements and other relevant inputs, allowing for separate daily adjustments for petrol and diesel. October 6 exemplified this, with petrol prices rising while diesel prices fell on the same day.
Despite recent increases, fuel prices remain below their peak levels earlier this year. Petrol hit Rs458.41 per litre on April 3, and high-speed diesel reached Rs520.35. In early March, petrol was close to Rs266 per litre, and diesel was approximately Rs281 per litre before their respective climbs. As of October 6, petrol is Rs64.77 below its April high, and diesel is Rs122.59 beneath its peak, both showing significant declines from their maximum levels in April.
Petrol prices increase while diesel drops after October 3 revision
Petrol, a primary fuel for private vehicles, including small cars, motorcycles, and rickshaws across Pakistan, has seen fluctuating prices. High-speed diesel, used mainly in heavy transport, power stations, and large generators, covers different sectors of the country’s energy and transport demands. As the major revenue sources from petroleum sales, petrol and high-speed diesel have experienced separate price movements on various occasions. Both fuels increased on October 3, but only petrol rose on October 6, with diesel prices decreasing.
For October 6, petrol is priced at Rs393.64 per litre, and high-speed diesel costs Rs397.76. These rates replace the previous levels from October 3, Rs392.76 and Rs399.64, respectively. Since that review, petrol has gained Rs0.88, while diesel has fallen Rs1.88. These figures continue the pattern of frequent daily changes characteristic of the current pricing system, and motorists along with commercial users are subject to the updated rates for the October 6 period.
