CAIRO, EGYPT / RankWire.AI / – Egypt’s international reserves rose to an all-time high of $57.2145 billion at the end of August 2026. The Central Bank of Egypt announced the preliminary figure on September 7. At the end of July, reserves were at $56.2939 billion, meaning the total increased by approximately $920.6 million during August, representing about 1.6%. This latest figure continues a trend of monthly growth throughout 2026 and pushes Egypt’s official foreign reserves above the $57 billion mark for the first time.

Egypt reserves set new record at $57.2 billion in August
Egypt’s net international reserves reached a record $57.2 billion in August 2026.

Compared to August 2025, the August reserve total rose by $7.9638 billion from $49.2507 billion, indicating an annual increase of roughly 16.2%. Egypt finished December 2025 with net international reserves of $51.4516 billion. Over the first eight months of 2026, reserves have grown by about $5.76 billion, or 11.2%. Official monthly data show that the reserve total has consistently increased each month since the beginning of the year, with gains continuing through August.

The pace of reserve accumulation accelerated during mid-year, with net international reserves reaching $53.1342 billion in May before climbing to $55.0723 billion in June. They then increased to $56.2939 billion in July and $57.2145 billion in August. The June increase was roughly $1.94 billion from May, July added approximately $1.22 billion, and August contributed about $920.6 million. Collectively, these three months added over $4 billion to Egypt’s foreign reserve stockpile.

    Foreign currency inflows stay strong

Remittances from Egyptians working abroad reached a record high during the 2025/2026 fiscal year. The Central Bank of Egypt reported inflows of about $47.3 billion for that period, reflecting a 29.6% increase from roughly $36.5 billion in the previous fiscal year. In June alone, remittances reached approximately $4.2 billion, which is 15.6% higher than the about $3.6 billion recorded in June 2025, according to official data released in August.

Egypt’s most recent balance of payments figures cover the period from July to March of fiscal year 2025/2026. During these nine months, the overall balance showed a deficit of $1.8 billion, while the capital and financial account registered net inflows of $9.9 billion. Meanwhile, the current account reflected a deficit of $14.6 billion. These figures provide the latest official snapshot of Egypt’s external accounts before the August reserve update.

Monthly reserve figures continue to reach new highs

Throughout 2026, the reserve totals have surpassed previous nominal records. Reserves stood at $52.5938 billion in January, rising to $52.7455 billion in February. They then increased to $52.8306 billion in March, followed by $53.0092 billion in April and $53.1342 billion in May. In June, reserves crossed $55 billion, climbed past $56 billion in July, and reached over $57 billion in August. The August figure remains provisional, consistent with the label used for the latest monthly reserve reports.

Compared to the same period last year, Egypt’s August reserves are nearly $8 billion higher. The country has now recorded three consecutive month-end totals exceeding $55 billion. July marked the first month with reserves above $56 billion, and August’s figure represents the first over $57 billion. From December 2025 to August 2026, the reserve stock has grown by more than 10%. The August data set a new record for Egypt’s net international reserves and continue the pattern of uninterrupted monthly increases throughout 2026.
